Position Summary:

The Communications Specialist (Specialist) will provide strategic direction to, and support the design and dissemination of, a broad range of communications products that will inform a diverse group of program stakeholders for an upcoming bid in Honduras.

The Communications Specialist will work closely with the COP, DCOP, technical team members and the Grants Manager to engage with key stakeholders to guide the design of products that demonstrate changes in irregular migration and reduction of violence in Honduras.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Communications Specialist will report to the DCOP.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop briefing materials, scene setters, and other communication tools that may be needed to effectively communicate with stakeholders and USAID;
  • Lead the development and implementation of a social media and digital strategy to engage communities, youth and other stakeholders
  • Lead and oversee the development of other communications products including graphics, photography and video.
  • Maintain communications calendar and report out on results of communications efforts
  • Design technical presentations on program achievements to implementing partners, civil society organizations, government officials, donor, and other organizations;
  • Contribute to drafting Quarterly Reports that document lessons learned, challenges and new opportunities, and accomplishments (success stories) in collaboration with Creative Home Office, client and implementing partners.
  • Develop and write success stories, collaborating with colleagues to identify story topics, conducting interviews, write and edit
  • Collaborate with HO to review current program branding templates. Ensure branding guidelines and clearances are understood and followed by Creative staff and implementing partners; and
  • Support the COP and the DCOP to develop the project strategic framework and work plans for the program implementation to ensure the achievement of the program goals.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years combined experience in communications, public health, youth and violence reduction initiatives and irregular migration with international development programs in Central America, preferably in advocacy Honduras, with USAID or U.S. Government.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic thinking;
  • Demonstrated capability to work with a broad range of host country government, civil society and and partners.
  • Able to work effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders within and among government, civil society, private sector and development partners.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation experience to multidisciplinary audiences; and a demonstrated track record of working effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong skills in project management techniques to plan and implement communication and public information activities;
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a variety of audiences and across a variety of media, as appropriate, including social media platforms, and engaging with media;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing communications materials in support of advocating for issues.
  • Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills;
  • Good computer skills including PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other software relevant to presentations and graphics; and
  • English proficiency required (speaking, writing, and reading).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or social media management platforms.
  • Relationships with local media
